Email Newsletter, Overdues, Hold Notices and Courtesy Notices — Oh My!
When you give us your email address, here’s what you’ll receive:
Sent to you from Hinsdale Public Library:
• Our Email Newsletter will come to you every month with information about what is happening at the library along with pertinent information about us.
Sent to you from Metropolitan Library System:
• Overdue Notices will let you
know when your items are two weeks overdue and if you forget again you will receive a second overdue notice at four weeks overdue.
• Hold Notices will let you know when the item that you placed on hold is at the library waiting for you to pick it up.
• Courtesy Notices are just that - a courtesy to let you know that your items will be due in three days.
Though we hope that you receive your notices in a timely manner, you are ultimately responsible for your items to be returned on time.
Please remember that if you change your email carrier you should let us know so we can change it in your record.

Construction Project Complete: A Job Well Done
Our construction is complete and library staff is putting the finishing touches onto the renovation project. The adult fiction collection has been relocated, the Teen Lounge is open and the Meeting Room on the lower level is accepting room reservations.
It has been exciting to participate in the changes of the library. All of the elements of the library’s improvements including the energy efficient lighting, new color scheme and furniture, technology upgrades, and space redesign have resulted in a community learning center that functions more effectively for its users.
The staff is pleased to bring all of the library’s collections back from storage and organize them in sensible and more accessible ways.
Changing the library’s hours of operation during the renovation project allowed staff to evaluate how the library could be used in different ways. Traffic patterns and circulation statistics – materials borrowed and returned - showed high levels of use on Sunday afternoons. Staff proposed to the board of trustees that the library remain open on Sundays throughout the year rather than close during the summer months. When the library resumes its morning hours of operation on March 10, these hours will also include a full seven day a week schedule for the entire year.
Elsewhere in this newsletter you will read about our opening events during National Library Week in mid-April. Please plan to be at the library with trustees and neighbors as we celebrate the library’s transformation and a job well done.

Construction Update: In the Homestretch!
The new entrance is open, the self-check out machines are up and running and the Reading Cabin in Youth Services has become one of the library’s most popular spots. During the end of October and beginning of November, the library completed the third phase of the renovation project. Movers relocated approximately 68, 0000 books, films, audio books, magazines and newspapers. New shelving was installed, new furniture arrived, and some staff moved to temporary quarters, while others moved back into newly renovated spaces.
The fourth and final phase of the library’s construction has commenced. The Meeting Room is being refurbished with new carpet, paint, furniture and a state of the art video/sound system. The Lounge for Teens will be constructed on the main level, the Adult Fiction area will be renovated and moved and by mid-February everything should be placed in its new location and ready to serve patrons.
Our most often heard compliment has been about the new lighting. Each floor has been updated with high-efficiency lighting which brightens spaces and reduces glare. The difference really is almost night and day. Entering the homestretch of our project, staff is busy planning for the big finish. A committee has been formed to plan re-opening events. Activities to celebrate the renovation of the library are scheduled to coincide with the 50th anniversary of National Library Week in mid-April.
Our next newsletter will have more details of performances and events – stay tuned.
