The Process of Art in Nature
Marianne Patrevito
About the Artist
Marianne Patrevito works in collage and mixed media. Her creative journey began 20 years ago as a way of self-care. Her first art-making experiences were inspired by a “creative process painting” class that focused on the process of making art as opposed to the final output. It allowed for freedom to explore ideas and learn to use new tools. Through classes, she discovered the intuitive nature of collage-making, which would direct her towards her signature style. She found that adding paper adhesives to her toolbox of paint and brushes gave her “process painting” an added depth.
Transforming her own paper into art was inspirational, and eventually led Marianne to enroll in a watercolor class. For a time, she painted in a more realistic style, but she kept coming back to loose watercolors. Marianne paints in a semi-abstract fashion, adding colors, textures, or stitching where needed to created the layered and intuitive mark-making that defines her work.
About the Exhibited Works
Trees are a dominant theme in Marianne’s collage paintings. She loves the texture of different barks and the lines that spiraling branches create. Nature is where she gets her inspiration; walking and gardening are two of her favorite activities. Marianne hopes that viewers can identify and relate to her pieces in a similar fashion.
