In Her Words
“Over the years, I’ve worked in the shape of a house, a simple square and a triangle on top. The square has a meaning of stability, and the triangle means goals and ideas. I moved a lot when I was younger; my father built houses in his youth and was an avid fixer-upper until one day my parents were able to build their dream home.
“You’ll see small, tiny homes and very large ones throughout this exhibit. What does your home mean to you? And what kind of feeling does your home provide for you?”
About the Artist
Laura Lein-Svencner’s collages are a combination of symbolism, form, meaning and spiritual content. Trusting in the process of intuitive knowing and openness is a huge part of accepting emotional moments. She allows life to move her playful imagination. Laura finds that the edges of the paper—some clean, some raw, and some torn—reflect life itself.
Laura grew up in Downers Grove near her grandfather’s farm and now lives in Darien. She’s married with four grown children, a granddaughter (and two more on the way), and a home full of loving creatures. In addition to making art, she spends time teaching collage as well. She is a signature member of the National Collage Society and a co-founder of the Midwest Collage Society.
