COVID-19 Response
PROGRAMS CANCELED THROUGH APRIL 6
Dear Neighbors,

Like our partners in the schools, Village of Hinsdale, and other agencies you rely on, we are monitoring the latest recommendations from the CDC, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the DuPage County Health Department and acting based on accurate information from trusted sources. Because the circumstances are rapidly changing, we may need to adjust our strategies and we will update our website accordingly. Updates are also posted on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. (See links below.)

Here’s what you can expect at the Library today:
    • We are canceling all programs and public events through April 6 as a precaution. This is based on CDC recommendations for community events. We plan to reschedule as many events as we can in the future.
    • Meeting Room reservations are suspended indefinitely.
    • Our cleaning company and staff have increased the frequency of our cleaning procedures, using disinfecting products to treat shared surfaces, computers, handrails, touch screens, and other high-traffic areas multiple times a day. If you see an area that you feel is in need of attention, please let a staff member know.
    • Tables and chairs, including computer workstations, will be spread further apart to create more space between individuals and allow for more effective cleaning.
    • Toys have been temporarily removed from the Youth Services area.
    •  We’re providing hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to our patrons as long as they continue to be available. Our staff is advised to follow a safety protocol of regular cleaning and handwashing.
    • Patrons exhibiting signs of illness like a cough or fever should stay home. All staff who may be ill are expected to stay home, as well.

If you would like us to pull items for you and have them waiting when you come in, please call or email

We can also provide chat reference—it’s the little blue box on the bottom of our website www.hinsdalelibrary.info.

And to make it easier for everyone to enjoy library materials, due dates have been extended on all items until May 1.

There are lots of ways to enjoy the library without visiting in person! You can download eBooks; listen to downloadable or streaming audiobooks; stream movies, TV shows, and music; read comics and magazines; take online classes; read newspapers; learn new languages, and much more. Browse our website for information about checking out online materials and resources.

We know many Hinsdaleans are spending more time at home now. People are working remotely or taking time off, college students are in town on break or beginning online learning experiences, and children have temporarily lost their after-school programs. We hope that by making these temporary changes to our operations now, we can keep providing the information and entertainment you need and want in these coming weeks–while also doing our part to keep the community safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Julie Liesse, Board President
Karen Keefe, Executive Director
