Library Card Sign Up Month
Library Card Sign Up Month is celebrated nationally every September. It is an opportunity to remind the community what a valuable resource a library card is. While walking into the library requires no membership, having a library card can get you access to more than just the building.
With your Hinsdale Library card, you can access thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks for download and streaming, plus movies, music, and magazines. Another HPL cardholder perk includes technology devices for checkout. Take our portable DVD player on a family road trip, use the projector for a backyard movie, or stream Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and other services available on our Roku without committing to a subscription. Each device checks out for 3 weeks to adult cardholders. Our digital resources and devices for checkout are available at hinsdalelibrary.info.
Another cardholder perk going into effect on September 1 is Express Checkout. With this service, items you have on hold will automatically be checked out and placed on the shelf. All you have to do is walk in to grab your items and go. (Take-home kits for kids and teens will be available for pick up in the Children’s Services Department.) Hinsdale cardholders interested in this service can call 630.986.1976 or email circulation@hinsdalelibrary.info.
Any Hinsdale resident is eligible for a Hinsdale Library card (though residents under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent). Since September 2020, over 700 new cards have been issued. Cards are good for three years, plus we take care of the renewal for you. So unless you move(even within Hinsdale), there will never be a lapse in account access. We went fines free last year, but missing books or late returns on other libraries’ materials still happen. If you have questions about your account, call, email, or stop by the Checkout Desk.
Hinsdale cardholders can also reserve the Digital Media Lab, meeting rooms, study rooms, and computers. Some of our most popular programs are also limited to Hinsdale cardholders. The fall newsletter should be arriving in your mailbox any minute. This issue may seem a bit lighter than usual. We will be planning fall programs on a month-to-month basis so we can make the best decisions with the most current information for staff and community safety. Follow us on social media and sign up for our eNewsletter to get the most up-to-date program and visitor information.
Effective August 30, masks are required for all visitors inside the Library. Thank you for your continued support as we adjust our services and programs. It was great to see so many of you at storytime, around town, and in the Library this summer. We can’t wait to see you this fall.
